As you may know, we've been on hiatus for a while, since the beginning of the revolution in Libya. We've been thinking about whether we should update the blog, given the situation back home. In some ways, it didn't seem right to continue as everyone in Libya is dealing with the loss and daily hardship of war. However, five months since the first protests in Benghazi, we have decided to return. We started this blog last Ramadan, and so much has changed since then that Ramadan will be very different this year, for all of us from across the region - but it will still be a month of fasting and of prayer, with families gathering and breaking their fast together around the iftar table.
We'd like to thank all the followers who have remained with us, despite the unexplained hiatus, and a special thank you to those of you who took the time to comment.
We hope you enjoy the coming recipes, and have a great Ramadan.

ReplyDeleteYou have an awesome blog. I suck at cooking and this is really a good manual for those who need to know the step by step head ups. I'm going to try to make the bazeen after I find the flower. Here is the states it's hard cook these stuff, especially since I suck at getting the spices names right. Do you have the specific ingredients of the bseesa? Like what kind of barely and other flowers, cuz I'd really love to be able to make it as I'm fasting a lone.
Ramadan Mubarak! I hope the blessed month brings clarity to all that seek it :-) I can say that your decision to get back to blogging delish recipes is an amazing idea! Living abroad makes it hard to get all of the authentic homemade recipes, especially if your Arabic is...subpar (me! me!) I love that I can feel for a dish, get on this blog for the recipe and cook up a storm! No hassle!! You're spreading the beautiful Libyan culture online, hats off to you!! :-D

ReplyDeleteMashaAllah your blog is so impressive...i have only just come across it whlie searching for libyan recipes to make for my husband..i am not libyan but my husband is and we live in libya..it is heartbreaking what is happening in libya now and everyday we pray that it will be over soon and libya will be free..MashaAllah the libyan people are so strong!!if you could see how they are fighting for justice and freedom mashaAllah..i had already left libya with my children in may leaving my husband in tripoli..however my husband is now with me (as it was no longer safe for him anymore) so i am so glad to find these recipes to remind him of our home and inshaAllah soon we will be able to return to a free libya
